I love hiking, biking, travelling, and semi-adventures — the kind where I might be uncomfortable for a while, but am not likely to lose my life.
I also love to dig around in historic archives, and have another blog that I started just so that I’d have a reason to write about the stuff I discover. I think it’s pretty interesting, and you might, too. It’s called The History Trail.
About the quote on my Home page: Walkin’ Jim Stoltz was a singer, writer, long-distance hiker and activist who died before his time in 2010. He was an amazing man.

what a great life you two have…..i class myself a kind of a traveller….mostly the armachair type these days, im afraid…reason? lack of funds! however, have been able to see most of the USA, from the east coast to the west….just wished i had more money to check out more of the middle parts!! good luck to you and a great set of pics!

I came across your photos of a 5-stamp mill at Belmont, Montana at your other blog, The History Trail. I’m currently researching Belmont for my blog, An Upbuilding Life, because my great great grandfather, John H. Rumping (according to my great grandmother’s journal), helped build and was the first engineer on a 5-stamp mill at Belmont in the 1878/1879 time frame. I was very excited to find your photos and the accompanying story – and I’m hoping you think your “5-stamp mill” is the same one my great grandmother, Mary (Rumping) Schenk, referenced in her journal. If so, would you allow me to use several of your mill photos in a blog post I’m working on regarding the mill? I would, of course, attribute the photos to you. I was born in Great Falls and both my parents were raised in Helena, so I visit family there quite often. But I rarely get a chance to visit the Marysville area. Thanks so much for considering my request. I have very much enjoyed looking at your blogs and look forward to hearing from you!
